Italian Game and other open games

The classical 1.e4 e5 openings, where both sides develop quickly, castle early and fight for the centre with pieces rather than pawn chains. The Italian aims a bishop at f7 and builds the ideal centre with c3 and d4; the Two Knights, Petrov, Philidor and Vienna are the honest alternatives to reach for when you want a real game without a memorised twenty-move line.
