Scotch Game openings

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 — White opens the centre immediately instead of manoeuvring around it. The tension resolves within a few moves, leaving open lines and a real fight for the d-file and the e5 square. It is the practical answer to the Ruy López problem: far less theory to learn, and Black gets no time to settle into a comfortable structure.
